Sex pervert caught with over 3,000 'obscene' images

Canterbury crown court

A CONVICTED sex pervert has walked free after being found with over 3,000 child abuse photos.

Sheerness resident, Benjamin West, who I happened to work with at Tesco in Sheerness, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted 28 charges of indecent images.

The 29-year-old appeared before Canterbury magistrates in July 2009 and admitted setting up a camera in his bathroom in his shared student accommodation. But matters did not end their as over 3,000 obscene images were found on his computer hard drive.

The judge felt best not to charge West, claiming he had made progress on a community order imposed for the voyeurism offence.

Joshua Mitchell, 19, who also worked with West at Tesco, said: "After the incident in 2009, I wasn't surprised to find out what happened - he has to be taken off the streets, it's clearly a mental illness."

Having lost his job at Tesco, West now lives in family accommodation and is in a relationship.
